BIBUS (UK) Ltd supplies a complete range of Bansbach Lockable Gas Springs — engineered to provide secure, step‑less positional locking anywhere along the travel of the piston rod. These products combine the advantages of Bansbach gas springs with integrated locking mechanisms, allowing components to be stopped and held reliably at any position in both compression and tension modes, depending on type. They are ideal for systems requiring stable positioning under load, such as machine hatches, adjustable furniture, hospital beds, industrial covers and ergonomic fixtures.
Lockable gas springs are available in steel or stainless steel variants, with multiple locking behaviours and performance ranges to suit your application needs. External release systems — including lever, cable or hydraulic — provide controlled unlocking for dynamic adjustment.
| Type | Locking Behaviour | Typical Size Range | Stroke Range | Force Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type B | Elastic locking both directions | 6/15 – 22/40 mm | ~100 – 800 mm | ~50 – 6,000 N |
| Type K | Rigid lock in extension, relatively rigid in compression | 6/15 – 14/40 mm | ~10 – 700 mm | ~50 – 2,600 N |
| Type P | Rigid lock in compression, relatively rigid in extension | 8/22 – 14/40 mm | ~30 – 300 mm | ~40 – 2,600 N |
| Type KX | Rigid lock in both compression & extension | 10/22 – 14/40 mm | ~20 – 250 mm | ~0 – 2,600 N |
| Lockable Tension Gas Springs | Rigid in both directions | 6/19 – 14/40 mm | ~10 – 600 mm | ~30 – 4,000 N |

"Reserve lockable" triggering system
Here, when you press it, the mechanism locks, whereas originally, pressing the button was supposed to unlock it.
Lockable tension gas springs
Lockable tension gas springs provide rigid locking in both compression and extension. An integrated valve within the piston enables secure stopping and locking in extension via the oil chamber, while rigid locking in compression is achieved through an internal stop that prevents the floating piston from compressing the gas.
To ensure the lockable gas spring in compression or tension is perfectly matched to your application, a wide range of control systems and accessories is available. These gas springs are offered in diameters from 6/19 mm to 14/40 mm, with stroke lengths from 10 mm to 600 mm and force ratings from 30 N to 4,000 N.
