Generally, pneumatically applied brakes are the most compatible for light-to-medium duty stopping tasks and tensioning applications where a high degree of control is required. Spring-applied calipers are highlighted where the braking system must remain engaged in the event of a power supply interruption, while hydraulically applied brakes address demanding torque requirements.
Mechanically applied units, which are suitable for soft tensioning duties or where external power is unavailable, can also be specified when designers wish to utilize them using their own means.
