Versatile jaw coupling featuring a brake disc and flexible separation for industrial applications

Multi-piece design with straight steel brake disc

The RINGFEDER TNM GHBS is an extremely versatile and reliable jaw coupling that has been specially developed for industrial applications. This coupling combines several important functions, including a brake disc and a sliding claw ring. It is torsionally flexible and fail-safe, meaning that it can compensate for angular, radial and axial shaft misalignments within defined tolerances.

The torque is transmitted via a flexible intermediate ring that is under compressive stress and is made of synthetic rubber (Pb). This intermediate ring is able to dampen shocks and torsional vibrations effectively. It is usually electrically conductive, thereby preventing unwanted static charging.

One notable feature of the RINGFEDER TNM GHBS coupling is that each coupling half is divided into two parts, making it possible to separate the coupled machines with ease. By pushing back the claw ring, it is even possible to check the drive’s direction of rotation. Similarly, a coupling half can be lifted radially out of the connection together with its unit.

The special design of this coupling also allows the flexible intermediate ring and the brake disc to be replaced without having to move the machines axially. This significantly increases the ease of maintenance and flexibility of the coupling.

The RINGFEDER TNM GHBS coupling is extremely versatile and can be used in any direction of rotation and any mounting position – further highlighting its adaptability to various industrial applications.

Featuring a straight steel brake disc – multi-piece design for changing the flexible intermediate ring and the brake disc without having to move the connected units axially. Flexible intermediate ring in various hardnesses: standard Pb72, hard Pb82.

Benefits

  • Torsionally flexible, compensates for angular, radial and axial shaft misalignment
  • Intermediate rings subjected to compressive stress
  • Elastomers available in various degrees of Shore hardness, suitable for temperatures from -30°C to +100°C
  • Flexible ring can be changed without moving the connected units (multi-piece versions)

The RINGFEDER TNM torsionally flexible coupling is free to move in all directions. As a result, shaft misalignments on the machines to be connected can be compensated in the angular, radial and axial directions. Misalignments can be caused, for example, by assembly inaccuracies, movements or settling.

Avoid torsional vibration

Thanks to the torsional flexibility of these products, dangerous torsional vibrations can be shifted from the operating range of machinery to other speed ranges where no negative effects are to be expected. The flexible intermediate rings are made from a material with a high damping capacity. As a result, the couplings are able to keep resonance increases in check when passing through problematic speed ranges, thereby protecting the coupled machines from damage. The couplings also attenuate torque shocks and – thanks to the damping capacity of the material – allow a vibration system excited by a shock to stabilise very quickly. The transmission of structure-borne sound is prevented.

Elastomer materials

Synthetic rubbers are used as the base materials for the flexible elements of the TNM coupling. They are usually electrically conductive, thereby preventing unwanted static charges, etc. Two different material hardnesses are available for the flexible elements of the RINGFEDER TNM as standard.

Pb 72 is a nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with a hardness of 72 Shore A.
Pb 82 is a nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) with a hardness of 82 Shore A.
It is the Shore hardness of the individual elastomer materials under compressive stress that determines their load-bearing capacity. From the level of these values, it is possible to infer what torques can be transmitted by the coupling and its spring stiffness. For further details, see the technical data sheet.

Ambient conditions

The elastomer materials used are suitable for an ambient temperature range of -30°C to +100°C. For higher ambient temperatures, please get in touch. The following design guidelines provide a detailed explanation of how the temperature affects the choice of coupling size. The coupling is only to be operated in normal industrial air. Aggressive media can corrode coupling components, screws and flexible elements, thereby posing a risk to the functional safety of the coupling. The coupling can be declared compliant with European (ATEX) Directive 2014/34/EU.
