In contrast to conventional expansion couplings, which clamp an inflatable expansion ring directly against the core, these couplings use ribbed expansion leaves made of aluminium.
Vorwald series SPM and series SPZ pneumatic expansion couplings
The series SPM/SPZ expansion couplings from Vorwald are based on the same principle as the L series expansion shaft. In contrast to conventional expansion couplings, which clamp an inflatable expansion ring directly against the core, these couplings use ribbed expansion leaves made of aluminium. The leaves are expanded by an internal bladder (which is replaceable). This prevents the kinds of cuts and wear that usually affect the bladder surface in the case of other designs.
Another advantage of the aluminium expansion leaves is that they have an expansion stop. As a result, this expansion coupling can even be clamped with a pressure of up to 6 bar without a winding core because the stop prevents the bladder from bursting. The large contact surface of the leaves on the bladder generates a clamping force that positions the core securely, even in the case of quick starting and stopping.
Various mounting diameters are available depending on the outside diameter, and a version with a flange or bearing journal can also be provided in the form of the SPZ series.
These series SPM/SPZ expansion couplings are mainly used for thin-walled cores that other types of clamping element could deform and render unusable. They therefore offer a gentle and efficient solution for such applications.
