Shrink Disc RfN 4161

No other type of shaft-hub connection offers comparable properties in terms of torsional fatigue strength and concentricity.

Ringfeder

Standard 2-piece design for high torques. Versatile range of applications.

Standard series for high torques
Shrink discs are among the most modern types of frictional connections. Depending on the design, they essentially consist of one or two conical pressure rings and an inner ring. These components are axially clamped against each other using clamping screws. The key difference from other internal clamping connections is that the pressure is applied externally to the hub. This means the shrink disc is not in the main power flow. Instead, torque is transmitted through frictional engagement at the contact surface between the shaft and the hub without any intermediate elements. This allows the shrink disc to create a press fit (shrink fit) for high-load shaft-hub connections in a simple and cost-effective manner.

This offers significant advantages over traditional methods, which required complex calculations, tight manufacturing tolerances, and difficult installation and removal procedures to produce press fits. Furthermore, there are no issues with interchangeability or centering during repairs. No other type of shaft-hub connection offers comparable properties in terms of torsional fatigue strength and concentricity.

Unlimited applications – RINGFEDER shrink discs are suitable for securing all types of hub components onto shafts and axles. They can be used anywhere where shrink fits, keyways, splines, polygonal or multi-spline connections were previously employed. They ensure highly reliable fastening of gear and chain wheels, levers, cams, rollers, belt or brake discs, flywheels, couplings, shaft-mounted gear units, flanges, rope pulleys, and impellers.

  • Standard series – for high torques.
  • Slotted inner ring – low power losses and reduced pressure on shaft and hub.
  • Compensation for minor tolerance deviations.
  • Maximum reliability – suitable for static, dynamic, and shock loads.
  • Simple component manufacturing – low demands on the functional surfaces of the mating components.
  • Easy replaceability – RINGFEDER shrink discs function entirely without form fit.
  • Simple installation – no shoulder, key, or pin required. Can be installed at any point on the shaft using standard screws and commercially available tools. No additional machining or fitting is necessary.
  • Short assembly times – cost savings especially in series production.
  • Easy disassembly – after loosening the clamping screws, the RINGFEDER shrink disc releases itself and can be freely moved along the shaft.
  • Low sensitivity to dirt – extended service life, as the contact surfaces are firmly pressed together when the clamping screws are tightened. Dirt and moisture cannot reach the functional surface.

Surfaces

  • For shaft diameter dw: surface roughness Ra ≤ 3.2 μm
