For high torques and universal application possibilities.

Shrink Disc RfN 4061, Split Version
Shrink discs are one of the most advanced types of frictional locking devices. Depending on the design, they consist essentially of one or two tapered pressure rings and an inner ring. These components are axially clamped together using clamping screws. The key difference compared to other internal locking devices is that the pressure is applied from the outside onto the hub. This means that the shrink disc is not part of the main power transmission path. Instead, the torque is transmitted via friction at the interface between the shaft and the hub without any intermediary element. In this way, a shrink disc can create a press fit (shrink fit) for high-load shaft-hub connections in a simple and cost-effective manner.

This offers significant advantages over traditional methods where press fits required complex calculations, tight manufacturing tolerances, and difficult assembly and disassembly procedures. Additionally, no problems occur during repairs regarding interchangeability or centering. No other type of shaft-hub connection offers comparable properties in terms of fatigue strength under reversing loads and runout accuracy.

Unlimited application possibilities – RINGFEDER shrink discs are suitable for fastening all kinds of hub components onto shafts and axles. They can be used wherever shrink fits, keyways, splines, polygonal or multi-spline shafts were previously employed. Examples include gears and sprockets, levers, cams, pulleys, brake discs, flywheels, couplings, add-on gear units, flanges, rope sheaves, and wheels.

  • Standard series for high torques – the most widely used shrink disc. It can be adjusted to the design requirements by changing the clamping torque.
  • Slotted inner ring – low loss forces and surface pressures on shaft and hub.
  • Compensation of small tolerance errors.
  • Maximum reliability – suitable for static, dynamic, and shock loads.
  • Easy component manufacturing – low demands on the functional surfaces of the connected parts.
  • Easy replacement – RINGFEDER shrink discs operate without form fit.
  • Easy installation – no shoulder, key, or pin required. Can be mounted anywhere on the shaft using standard screws and tools. No additional machining or fitting is needed.
  • Easy disassembly – once the clamping screws are loosened, the RINGFEDER shrink disc is self-releasing and freely movable on the shaft.
  • Low dirt sensitivity – increased service life, as the contact surfaces are tightly pressed together when tightening the clamping screws. Dirt and moisture cannot penetrate the functional surface.

Shrink Discs GT (Split Type)
In this design, longer clamping screws are required depending on dimension X, which must be ordered accordingly. If dimension “X” exceeds 2 · L1, the transmissible torque of the GT type may be reduced by up to 50%.
