Shrink Disc RfN 4181

No other type of shaft-hub connection offers comparable properties in terms of torsional fatigue strength and concentricity.

Ringfeder

Large 2-piece design for very high torques. Size extension of the RfN 4161 series.

2-piece shrink disc – for transmitting highest torques
Shrink discs are among the most modern types of frictional connections. Depending on the design, they essentially consist of one or two conical pressure rings and an inner ring. These elements are axially clamped against each other using clamping screws. The key difference from other internal clamping connections is that the pressure is applied externally to the hub. This means the shrink disc is not part of the main force flow. Instead, the torque is transmitted by frictional engagement at the contact surface between the shaft and the hub without any intermediate element. In this way, a shrink disc can create a press fit (shrink fit) for high-load shaft-hub connections in a simple and cost-effective manner.

This offers significant advantages over conventional methods that required complex calculations, tight manufacturing tolerances, and difficult assembly and disassembly procedures to create press fits. In addition, there are no issues with interchangeability or centering during repairs. No other type of shaft-hub connection offers comparable properties in terms of torsional fatigue strength and concentricity.

Shrink discs are suitable for securing all types of hub components onto shafts and axles. They can be used wherever shrink fits, keys, splines, polygonal or multi-spline connections were previously employed. They ensure absolute reliability when fastening gear and chain wheels, levers, cams, rollers, belt or brake discs, flywheels, couplings, shaft-mounted gear units, flanges, rope pulleys, and impellers.

  • 2-piece shrink disc – for transmitting the highest torques.
  • Maximum reliability – suitable for static, dynamic, and shock loads.
  • Simple component production – low demands on the functional surfaces of mating components.
  • Full interchangeability – RINGFEDER shrink discs operate entirely without form fit.
  • Visual control of tightening status – reduces assembly errors.
  • Simple installation – no fitting or adjustment required, standard tools are sufficient.
  • Short assembly times – cost savings especially in series production.
  • Low sensitivity to contamination – extended service life as the contact surfaces are tightly pressed together once the clamping screws are tightened. Dirt and moisture cannot reach the functional surface.
  • Easy positioning – no need for stops, shoulders, keyways, or splined shafts; hubs can be positioned and locked at any desired point or angular position on the shaft.
