Gearbox Day: Where precision gearboxes come to life

The goal of the Precision in Motion – Gearbox Day was not only to introduce cycloidal, strain wave, and planetary gearboxes on a theoretical level, but to showcase their operation through live demonstrations and real industrial applications.

What made this professional event especially unique was its two distinct target groups: on the first day, mechanical engineering students from the University of Miskolc joined us, while on the second day we welcomed our business partners. This created a valuable opportunity for two different yet equally relevant audiences to experience the latest trends in drive technology up close.

Why was the Precision in Motion – Gearbox Day unique?

BIBUS Kft.’s professional event offered an opportunity that industrial professionals rarely experience in such a concentrated format:

Participants gained first-hand insights into the operation of modern motion control systems, gearbox design considerations, and how different gearbox types contribute to the reliability, accuracy, and service life of automation solutions.

Day 1 – Focus on engineering students

Practical knowledge for the engineers of tomorrow

The visit of mechanical engineering students from the University of Miskolc created an especially inspiring atmosphere. For future engineers, it was invaluable to explore the operation of cycloidal gearboxes, strain wave solutions, and planetary gearboxes not only through textbooks, but via real, functioning systems.

Experts from Nabtesco presented:

• how the design of cycloidal gearboxes delivers extreme precision,
• the advantages of strain wave technology in compact robotic applications,
• common gearbox selection mistakes and how to avoid them.

Live demonstrations helped students understand why the behavior of a robot arm, positioning axis, or industrial automation system can vary significantly depending on the chosen gearbox type.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to Neugart planetary gearboxes, where young engineers learned about:

• the operating principles of planetary gear designs,
• industrial application areas (packaging machines, material handling, AGVs, and robotics),
• load conditions and efficiency considerations.

By the end of the day, many students shared the same conclusion:

The second day had a distinctly industrial focus, welcoming existing and potential business partners, including machine builders, system integrators, and automation specialists.

Expert presentations placed special emphasis on:

• modern automation trends,
• failure prevention and selection criteria,
